Playa Hermosa is the powerful, consistent beach break just south of Jacó, and one of the best-known surf spots in Costa Rica. Its long stretch of dark sand picks up swell almost every day of the year, with fast, hollow waves that suit experienced surfers. If you are just starting, the softer waves in Jacó, a few minutes north, are the better choice.
Check the cam before you drive down: the tide and the wind change the waves a lot during the day, and the early morning session is usually the cleanest.
